You can tell it's a Web 2.0 site from the dodgy spelling in the domain name.

So I was more than surprised that wankr.com is still up for grabs. That's surely a missed branding opportunity for someone into "revenue generating web sites".

I was thinking about this phenomenon of the missing last vowel recently, and other creative misspellings. This was prompted as I was idly looking for a domain name for a possible project. What I realized was that as bad the domain name grab was a few years ago, it's gotten truly insane now, and there's basically zero chance of finding a properly spelled domain, even if it consists of multiple words.
Therefore it's not surprising that anyone wanting a reasonably short domain name (especially in
.com) is going to end up either making a word up or misspelling an existing one.
