After working with it for three hours, I just got the Maypole BeerDB example working with Apache2 and MySQL on Windows.
It took a little longer than expected because my Apache wasn't configured correctly and I had forgot the root password for MySQL :/
But there are still a lot of things that could be more stream-lined for the first-time user.
I'll write about that adventure some other time (it's 1.40AM).
