10% assimilation

I started on my new project a week ago. I was assigned a desk and a computer.

I booted the windows machine I had been assigned, the manager came by with login credentials. Nice, this machine is normally used by another consultant, so stuff like cygwin, perl and other stuff was already installed. After a very nice meeting with the technician I am supposed to work, we went for lunch.

After this I sat down at my desk, I attempted to access some of the machines I attempted to install some tools I was missing, but without administrative rights this was over before it was begun.

I am still convinced that it would be easier if I worked on my MacBook, but the manager seems to be of another conviction.

So with the installed tools I talked to the technician sitting next to me and attempted to access some of the systems he had outlined to me like CVS, hosts etc. but without any luck, apparently I am lacking credentials and access even some client SW to get going.

Man, I feel like I am wasting my time, so instead of doing anything constructive I am writing this journal entry.

Perhaps I should just leave early.
