New laptop soon?

My TiBook is getting tired.

It could probably run for some more time, but the keyboard (carriage return) is getting loose and the left hinge to the screen is not as strong as it used to be. The screen has started to open in the left-lower corner and generally the machine is looking battered.

I use it everyday and I have had the machine with me everywhere and I have had no real problems with it - I have changed two batteries over time, but that is all.

So what will it be?

- I think Powerbook 15" from Apple - this model bears the closest resemblance to my TiBook and I like the size of screen and keyboard - to there is no doubt in my mind, now I just have to find the finances

I swear we just covered this topic on #catalyst last night. Is there any reason you need the powerbook spec wise?

Unless you need the faster mem bus or the 32 extra MB of memory, the 12" iBook is a hell of a deal at $999 IMHO.

iBook

I just bought an iBook for my girlfriend and I must admin i feels a bit small, cool for travelling etc. but I use my Powerbook as a workstation - and the newer Powerbooks do have a higher screen resolution (1280x854 vs. 1152x768)

So I am pretty much decided :)

My current laptop is a beefer. P4 2.8Ghx, 1GB ram, 7200RPM hard drive, dual CD and DVD/CDR @ 1600x1200...and it's 3 years old at that.

I'm in the mood for a 12" iBook for Starbucks surfing and another platform for perl hacking.

windowsXP and FreeBSD 5.4 It's a Sager; which are basically Alienware notebooks without paying another $1000 for the logo and the paintjob.
