I just installed darwinports it has proven really good - a few packages have problems installing. The errors have been missing directories.
So I have mailed patches to the maintainers of: wtf and trafshow
If you are running OS X, you should check out darwinports.
I actually found a REALLY useful piece of software - a real virtual desktop pager. I have experimented with: space and virtualdesktop.
The first one is cool, but cannot handle terminal windows on several desktops, virtual desktop is shareware. But this app (Desktop Manager) is free and it can handle having terminals on more than one virtual desktop.
And from a Perl perspective, fink is in Perl, darwinports is in TCL. If you want to extend or expand it (or even understand it), that might make a difference.
