I've always wanted one of the MBPs, now more than ever since they went hires 1920x1200. I've been talking myself out of the urges when I had them because $3k is a big guilt trip and $3000 can do alot other things around the house (like a shed). Not to mention, I hate having credit card debt.
St. Murphy made the choice for me. Last night, the hinges on my 5 year old Sager basically exploded. The lcd case was getting cracks, but this was an all out plastic pieces explosion. I don't think it would withstand another lid close/open at this point and it barely stays up under it's own weight.
TO make matters more humorous, I'd just got done telling my wife that "ok, I'll work for it... hit 300lbs first before I get it"... then boom! :-)
So the time is now apparently, so I ordered me a refurb 17" MBP Core2 HiRes that also has the upgraded 7200rpm hard drive. The price difference from new was about $450, and they more than made up for getting AppleCare.
Game on.
