While this is no surprise to many, it has sharpened my thoughts on the RIAA, MPAA attacking mom/pop/son for small time piracy.
A $friend of a $friend of a $friend of a $friend sent $lastfriend-1 a DVD of a summer blockbuster [that is still playing at this very moment] from overseas. The DVD has menues, and the clarity/sound is supurb considering what it really is, when the real release will be, and where it came from. This isn't your P2P downloaded version or a movie camera in the theatre. This was a digital grep from a master source somewhere.
This makes it clear that the RIAA/MPAA are hurting their customers more than going after pirates. Mom , Pop, and teenage Son aren't the business hurting pirates just because they snagged/uloaded a crap copy of a P2P version; it's the person who gave out an unreleased digital copy, and the person who is mastering these things in bulk overseas that are the problem.
And while the MPAA would be suing the ass off of $lastperson-1, and all other person, all of them will still buy it when it comes out on DVD. Hell, most of the @friends have seen it in the theatre at least once, mostly twice and own 1,2,4,5 and 6.
