New Song: Germs

If you're like me (and who isn't?), you've often wondered what it would sound like if Gary Neuman meet up with Yes in a dark alley -- drunk. Wonder no more!

For those who liked the odd rhythms of Plug Nickle, you'll no doubt enjoy the 7/4 groove of "Germs". Those that like creepy songs about hypochrondiacs -- I haven't forgotten you either!

Germs

Sounded v. strange at 09:30 on a Sunday morning.
Much better at 21:30 after half a bottle of wine.
I'm curious to know what technology you used to put it together.

Your instincts were right the first time.

I use Cakewalk's Pro Audio 9 software on my 1.8Ghz Pentium Dell with a generic SoundBlaster Live! card. I have a Mackie 1402 mixing board to facilitate audio tracking (vocals, bass, guitars, etc). The only synth you hear is from the SBLive card, although I have install additional patches. I use an old ART outboard effects rack mount for reverb/delay/chorus/flange, along with two BOSS half-rack compressors. Sometimes I will use Cakewalk's software effects too.

Cakewalk can save audio tracks as MP3s, WAV and Real Audio.

The overridding philosophy of this rig is to make music on the cheap. I don't have unlimited cash to spend on this hobby (I did that once), so it's all about making the most with the crap I have.
