Sci-Fi suggestions

Thanks to all that gleefully piped a few entries ago on other good sci-fi reads. I'll get to them as my queue allows. I'm a fairly slow reader. I expect to start _Day of the Triffids_ tonight (which is a 50's book, not a 60's one. My bad).

and start with Jules Verne? :) Too often overlooked but is considered to be the father of the genre and rightfully so. Many of his books are coming back into print and you'll see a list of them over on axis of aevil :)

I may get around to good ol' Jules. I did read 20K Leagues at point in grade school. Well's was a rough contemporary, which satisfies my requirements. Although I like a good read, I've choosen a set of books that show the changing nature of Sci-Fi. It's kind of like a college class. The World Wars are a kind of gravity well that has affected many of the last century's (!) writers. That's what I'm tracking.

For the best space opera I've seen, try Iain Banks. He's one of the very few scifi authors I care for these days.
