Trying to do some X configuration stuff that I would have expected to be straightforward and well-FAQ'ed somewhere. It is less so than I'd like.

Any X gurus out there with some free time ;-)?

you might try #xfree86 on irc.freenode.net, or if that proves insufficient, try the channel of your distro on the same network (#slackware, #debian, #redhat, #fedora, etc)

I will try that, thank you. I've tried some other likely places with no joy, so one more can't make that many more people made at me....
