I received my notification today that I'd been surplused. I'm one of those people who intended to work at the same company for thirty years and then retire; I was about to hit my five year mark next year.
All's not over; I'll be looking around within the company and have every confidence that I'll find a different position. Hopefully involving Perl. If it's not in the description, I intend to bring it to the table as one of the best tools for the job.

I have sixty days' notice and will be paid for sixty more days, but my last day will actually be December 30th unless I find another job.
