Cargo cult

I recently learned what this term means. Today I realized that's what I should call all the dBase forms I find lying around on our server that have their executable bits set by those who have been there before me.

Blame Samba

I find that most of the executable file problems that I see are down to samba setting +x as a way of storing the DOS archive file attribute. It sucks, but there you go. It's not like any software actually uses that attribute, anyway...

I've seen that a lot, but this is dBase IV for Solaris UNIX. (Ancient and unsupported.) Users set the x bit either because they don't understand chmod or because they think they have to.
