A genuine search.cpan.org problem?

Okay, so I'm looking at my copy of TPC4 conference proceedings I got at YAPC, and I see an interesting project called LlamaCard by Damian Conway and Aaron Wigley. Without reading too much, I decide to go see if LlamaCard is on CPAN. (Not necessarily expecting to find it; it might be a proprietary product for all I know.)

Searching "All" on search.cpan.org for "LlamaCard" yields four results:

  • Postgres
  • ClearCase::SyncTree
  • Storable
  • Storable (this time in the 5.8.0 tarball)

Just for grins, I had my browser search the doc page for each of these modules for an occurrence of "LlamaCard," and did not find it.

Seeking enlightenment...

Hmm

Interestingly, those are 4 of the top 6 results for a search for "longer". Perhaps it does some sort of Soundex search as a last resort if it finds no exact matches. ("LlamaCard" and "longer" are both Soundex L526.)

Yes you are exactly right. The AUTHOR section of a POD is indexed with soundex

Llama Card

I can't help with the false positives coming from search.cpan.org.

There was a mailing list discussion within the last few months about LlamaCard. I forget the list, but it'll be archived on archive.perl.org. Damian responded towards the end of the thread that LlamaCard was never released, and the student who was working on it still has the source code. Large amounts of lobbying may be required to persuade him to release it. :-) Google probably has a better pointer to the discussion.

I think the discussion was on this site. At least, that's where I saw the answer from Damian.

I'm not in any particular need of the product; I was just looking out of curiosity. But I became even more curious about the search.cpan.org results.
