Uncertain about the real world

GNU-Darwin wishes to reiterate our solidarity with the anti-war demonstrators, and warn the powers that we will go black with an extended list of demands if the NYC demonstrators are ill-treated, harmed, or molested in any substantial way. We will also join the boycott plans against Disney, etc, and we will lend the communicative power of our Distribution to that effort.

Blackout ultimatum

Uh, huh. Talking to the powers, here. Whoever they are. Must be the vast right-wing conspiracy, or something.

We're warning, you, powers! If you don't come to terms, we'll fight you with our mighty software distribution!

Sounds vaguely occultic. I guess if you drink enough Free Software Koolaid (and, remember, I'm a Free Software advocate myself) you get bloated views of your own importance.

Yep, remember that, folks. That's free software, fighting the power.

Kind of a truism, actually:
If you drink enough Koolaid you get bloated views of your own importance.
Removing contact with the rest of the world seems to imply that your importance within your limited social hierarchy increases, and your limited social hierarchy's importance increases to global proportions.

I'm not sure if the converse condition -- reducing the importance of one's social hierarchy or one's own place within it -- is less common or just less frequently obvious. It's hard to notice someone who thinks they're unimportant -- they hide, unintentionally.
