ENOPERLCONTENT

So the parents showed up at my flat last night at about 11 o'clock wanting dinner cooked for them.

I knew they were coming which was a plus, but it was still tiring.

Now, I'm shattered. I don't want to do anything. Hell, I'm not capable of doing anything :-)

How is it my parents are far more capable than I am of staying up until ridiculous o'clock?

Translation question

Is "dinner" in the UK the same as "lunch" here? In other words, was it 11am or pm?

If it was 11pm, is it normal to eat so late in the UK? When I was in Spain, it struck me as surprising to see families going out to dinner at 9pm or later.

No, dinner can come at any time of the day, but it implies a fairly serious meal, i.e. not just a sandwich.

So, in this case, it is PM. Dinner in the UK, if you're going out for dinner at least, would normally be at 8:30-9 I suppose. But even so, 11:00 is a bit past me when I have to get up for work the next morning :-)
