Just saw this on Slashdot: Microsoft forges ties with open source maker Zend.
"Bill Hilf, a Microsoft technical strategist, said the Zend deal, a multiyear, multiphase partnership, will ensure PHP programs run on past and future versions of Microsoft Web server software."
Is it just me, or is the likelihood of a similar thing happening for Perl extremely unlikely, even though PHP, like Perl, has its roots in the *nix world? Why do you think that is?
There's no-one for Microsoft to do a deal with. Zend is the corporate face of PHP & if Perl had a similar company involved (Activestate doesn't count) then a similar deal could be done.
Whether that would be a good idea is left as an exercise for the reader !

Does it have to be corporate? How about the Perl Foundation?Re:Perl doesn't have a Zend

How much does the Perl Foundation spend on marketing ?
That's what this deal is really about I reckon, it's a marketing ploy to make Windows more attractive for web serving.

Microsoft did do a deal with Activestate with regards to Perl on Windows way back in 1999.Re:Perl doesn't have a Zend

As usual, Perl did it first!:)
