Last night was the annual Wellington.PM lightning talk meeting. We ended up with ten talks even though at the start of the day I only had three confirmed speakers - why does every thing have to be left to the last minute?
It was good to see at least one monger get up and do his first talk (hi Evan!). We even had one of the developers from the Ruby on Rails core team (hi Koz!) come along to tell us about their local user group and remind us that our communities have much in common.
While I was trying to encourage participation, I kept running into the "What would I talk about" response. I did have plenty of answers ready, but a new one was "Pick a random CPAN module and tell us about that". To help with this, I put together the CPAN Roulette page, which proved quite popular.
