Finally got to do a bit of coding and released a new version of Sprog.
Sprog is a GUI tool (Gtk2) that aims to bring the power of command pipelines to the graphical desktop. The Sprog workspace allows a user to assemble a 'machine' from parts using drag and drop; to configure those parts using properties dialogs; and to run the machine with the click of a button.
In time, Sprog will provide lots of data sources, filters and output options, but right now, a modest collection of simple components is provided.
The main new feature since December is that saving/restoring machines to files has been implemented, so you can start to build cool machines and share them with your friends :-)
The Sprog project is hosted on SourceForge.
The latest version of the code is available for download here.

Yes, after I did my lightning talk on this at OSDC, gnat commented on the Automator angle and sent me a link - it's pretty clear that someone at Apple has been reading my mind
:-) Perl has always been a central element of my vision for this app. I suspect that's not the case with Automator. One day I hope to borrow someone's Mac and have a play with Automator, but in the mean time I'm happy coding in a vacuum.

The developer pages about Automator have said it should be very easy to write new bits for it, hopefully including in Perl. Once I have Tiger, I'll let you know.
