Rumours of a new strike...

We had a big one in the end of 2001... We would only put the calendar back on its way on 2004... By the end of the year, IIRC.

Now, there are rumours that there will be a new strike this year. Either by the end of April --- when we're starting 2003 --- or in October --- in the beginning of the second semester.

It sux.

calendar? strike?

What is a "calendar" in this context, and how does a "strike" affect it?

Sign me... "confused".

In this context a calendar is what describes some sucession of things, as in any other context. :-)

I'm sorry, but these are mainly academic things --- and I don't know if it's the same in every place...

For example, we're finishing our 2002 school year now. 2003 will begin in April 22nd (21st is a holiday). The calendar describes when the school year starts, when it ends, when the first semester starts (for courses where it applies), when it ends, when the second semester starts, etc. It also defines when the final exams start and end, when teachers have to have the notes ready, when we have to make our choices of what subjects we're going to study, etc. :-) It is a calendar to me... :-) It usually is like the normal calendar that we think about everyday, but due to the last strike it is delayed in 4 months, as you might have noticed :-)

Is it clearer?

Professors and probably employees from the university. Federal universities...
