Genius

One of the winners of this year's MacArthur Foundation genius grants is Edgar Meyer. He's an awesome musician and had an incredible sense of humour. His arrangement of Bach's cello suites for the double bass is amazing, but I'm just as big a fan of his bluegrass work. See Strength in Numbers and Skip, Hop & Wobble for two of my top five albums.

When I was at the Aspen Music Festival as a composition student for my second year there, Edgar Meyer was one of the visiting composers. He gave an interesting talk and played some of his music, and also had some of it performed.

He seemed like a really nice person (as opposed to some other composers I've met ;)
