Being an editor is like being a serial mom. Getting an author to write is like foreplay, editing is like pregnancy, production hell is like giving birth, and holding a new book in your hands is like that amazing moment when you get to hold your new baby for the first time.
The difference is that parents aren't expected to produce a half-dozen to a dozen babies a year :-)

Are we talking about the same "getting to write" part that involves countless painful hours spent agonising over a few paragraphs to find the best wording, staring blankly at a screen without knowing what to write, and generally losing all hope of a social life? I certainly hope you will NEVER foreplay with me
