Weta at OSCON

We've got the IT Director from Weta Digital, Peter Jackson's digital effects company, keynoting at OSCON. The Lord of the Rings movies are being made with Linux and Perl. Ain't it wonderful?

Well, I don't know how much they used Mac OS X for LotR, but Weta was bought by Apple, and Apple has discontinued the product for Windows already. :-) I doubt they'll discontinue the Linux version.

How do they use Perl?

I think you're confusing them with a different Weta. Weta Digital, the company that does LOTR sfx, was not bought by Apple.

Sorry, yesterday was a long day, and my thoughts were muddled (I tried to write more replies to journals yesterday, but few of them were coming out right :-). I meant Apple bought NothingReal, the company that makes the software Weta used to do much of the sfx for LotR.
