Perl Jobs

This is an interesting snapshot of job requirements in job listings. Java's the most-desired tech, of course, but it's interesting to see that Perl (310) not only beats out Python (92) but also PHP (108) and JavaScript (252).

Yes yes, Ziggy, it's not a competition, but even in a friendly race it's nice not to come last.

Well, sure. But even Python didn't come in last -- at least it made it to the finish line at a respectable position. ;-) Ruby (2) and Groovy (1) barely made the cut, falling far behind SOAP (100), CSS (97), CVS (80), XSLT (73), and even Lisp (4).

Haskell and Smalltalk, on the other hand, well....

expect to...

I would expect to see that perl very likely to be mentioned in the job description whenever the job is about unix/linux.

The jobs site down the hall is busier than ever (fwiw).

(the front page used to be long enough to have jobs for several weeks; now it's several days...)

There are enough US listings now that state-by-state listings would be really helpful.

It's a good thing that there are so many listings, of course!
