Theo the Perl Hacker

I always think of the Schlossnagles (Theo and George) as PHP hackers, but Theo's a real Perlophile. See his blog entry on embedding Perl. That boy's hard core!

The best bit about this ApacheCon is that I have been exposed to everyone using multiple technologies (Rasmus: "I write a lot of Perl") and I feel now like I can put PHP toys on my web site and not feel like I'm betraying the home team.

And while I'm pointing to journals, Chris is not only an awesome guy, but he has a blog too, which I only just discovered. I definitely need a better collaborative filter system than "periodically I do a drunkard's walk through the "blogs I read" lists on my friends' web sites".

they were at courtside for me

The Schlossnagle boys were front and center for my talk on embedding Perl in Oracle at OSCON. Didn't quite expect them there either, but they were certainly the most active participants in the crowd; a formidable presence. They are truly men for all seasons. :-)

He uses ithreads, and it works!

Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling that altough threads from perl land are still shakey, they seem rock solid if you use them embedded.

but slow as a turtle, and CPAN is a long way from catching up with the concept of threads, most modules interfacing C libs are doomed to crash under threads.

yes, but there is not much we can do about that :(
