My biggest reservation with the Perl Foundation grants was that we were opening ourselves to a huge flood of pseudo-projects, and we'd be inundated with project proposals amounting to nothing more than "give me money for what I was going to do anyway."
I am amazed, delighted, rapturous, and in love with the Perl community all over again, because this hasn't happened. There have been no (0) proposals that were like that. We've had a slow trickle of amazingly high quality proposals for useful projects to fund and not a slacker in sight.
