PDA WiFi

Since my university is rolling out wireless and my school, or department if you prefer, has it up and unofficially working.

I've done some testing with NetStumbler, don't have my linux stuff up and running yet, on my laptop and things seems to be going great. I even have our PC cart (rolling cart with a pc, flat panel, and projector for professors to use in presentations) working with the wireless network.

When brian d foy made the dive to get a Xircom Springport I thought I would do it as well. Heck, getting a SpringBoard™ for $100 that normally retails for $300 is very tempting.

I was able to connect to the open access point in one of our conference rooms. Very cool to be surfing from my Visor.

Today, I dug around for the VPN software needed to connect to the campus wide wireless network. I got it working once but I let the connection timeout and I haven't had much luck since.

I might try to get it working with my home wireless network. Should be interesting since all 3 networks are different:

1) Home: encrypted and closed. I may start doing MAC registration

2) Work A: wide open, no encryption, no nothing

3) Work B: open but need VPN connection to do anything.

So far I'm very happy with the PDA wireless stuff. Just one more way to increase my geek quotient. :-)
