Is it wrong to tell a salesman to his face that you don't like his wares? An HP dude stopped buy trying to hawk Itanium.
To be honest I don't know if 64bit machines are in my (near)future. He did have a point about whether I'll even need it in the near future.
I do have a horde of aging Sun E450's. I'm getting a new V880 Real Soon Now and have a PowerEdge 6600 running Linux. Getting the money for the Sun was kind of a fluke and I don't see it happening again.
I do however see lots of boxes like the PowerEdge, i.e. inexpensive hardware and a good OS (might move to *BSD since I was weaned on that in my undergrad days).
Ah, the joys of being sysadmin for a university engineering department. :-)
