It can't be coincidental that "Miriam"'s last name is Lagos, the capital of Nigeria.

just a new tricky way of getting you to respond so they can verify your address for one of those "verified email databases".

They've probably figured out that 5% of people receiving such a message will respond with a "Who are you? I don't recall asking to be removed from anything." Which is a higher percentage than they get otherwise.
