I am looking at buying an iBook for my next computer so the whole fake Microsoft "switch" ad amused me (from Kasia). What do you get for your money notebook-wise these days?
$1,364.00 for an iBook 12.1", OS X 10.2, 600mhz, 384meg, 20gig, DVD
$1,227.00 for a Dell Inspiron 14", WinXP Pro, 1700 mhz, 256meg, 20gig, DVD
The Dell seems a hell of a lot better value. It also has the advantage that I can dual boot windows and linux.
I'm probably going to get the iBook so I can give OS X another chance.
I've got a iMac on my desk at work and it's running OS 9 rather than X as I don't think it's worth the $129 upgrade cost. I feel I got fucked over by Apple on this purchase, OS X with only 128mb is painful. I'm just contemplating whether I really want to pay $1400 for a new notebook and then another $129 when OS 11 comes out.
Those megahertz values may actually be very comparable. And, while you can't dual boot Windows and GNU/Linux on the Mac, you can dual/triple boot Mac OS X/Max OS/GNU/Linux/I/love/slashes
