I thought I'd try out Knoppix, a Linux live cd, and it's great. After some minor hassles getting it (use BitTorrent instead of the slow mirrors) and burning a 700 meg cd, it was flawless. I threw in the cdrom, hit enter, waited a bit and ended up with a KDE desktop. Highly recommended.
