I caught a repeat of the first episode of FLCL (Fooly Cooly) on Cartoon Network. FLCL is the most amusing, messed up, makes-no-sense, brilliant anime I've seen.

The first episode involves Naota being hit on by Mamimi, the girlfriend of his older brother who's off in America playing baseball. A Vespa driving alien, Horuko, then hits him on the head with a guitar which cause robots to come out of his head and battle. It's genius.

It makes a lot of sense

There's actually a lot of thematic continuity in the series, despite the visual insanity. Basically, it's about growing up (or not growing up too much to not be a kid). I love that show, it's one of the most brilliant things I've ever seen.
