I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the genius who decided that the waste water pipe from my guest bathroom should attempt to run uphill creating a nice low point for water to fill and freeze.
Lesson learned today: if you flush the toilet and the water doesn't seem to drain properly, it's probably not a good idea to flush again to see what happens.
