Has anybody investigated Rekall? It's an MS-Access like tool but with support for PostgeSQL and MySQL with scripting in Python. It's also cross-platform, GPL'd, and has a commercial Windows port.
I've developed a bunch of small tools with MS-Access over the years, and it's a pretty kick-ass tool if you want to whip up a GUI for a small database. Having something built around a decent programming language with proper database support sounds great. Being able to get stuff running on Linux, Mac, and Windows sounds even better.
