I'm $136.74 poorer after pre-ordering Panther (to arrive on the 24th). I feel kind of resentful about having to buy it.

That feeling will dissipate completely once you receive it in two weeks. I've been fortunate to have tested a pre-release seed of Panther, and I can assure you that it's money very well spent. Personally, I'm looking *forward* to forking over the cash to Apple; with
all of the enhancements, they really deserve it. In all my decade of using macs, I don't think they've ever put out a better release.
Further,
educational discounts are available, which brings the price of Panther down to $69. And, certain categories of
ADC members get Panther for free. Some Universities even offer Panther to students/staff/faculty at no cost.
