apartment hunting?

The lease on my apartment is up on 1st December and I got a letter from the landlord today, the rent goes up from $800 to $850 a month next year. I have to decide if the effort involved in moving is justified. It went up $50/month last year too and I wasn't in a position to move and just sucked it up.

The thing is, this apartment isn't too bad. Sure the kitchen is a bit small and my bedroom carpet is brown, but I get ploughed off-street parking and free heat is a bonus in winter. Bad points are fairly expensive electricity bills due to electric hot water and a crappy fridge.

The main thing to consider is the effort involved in finding a new apartment then lugging two bedrooms and a lounge full of stuff into it.

Mine went down

$150 last month when I renewed, but then again I was paying more than twice as much as you (I live in Boston). Ahh, housing <$1000/mo... it will never happen here. :-(
