os x tip

OS X tip of the day:
If you want to connect to your OS X box from Windows, you need to edit your account from "Accounts" under System Preferences and enable the "Allow user to log in from Windows" setting. Why this setting isn't under "My Account" is beyond me.

I only spotted this setting after finding Apple (UK and Ireland) Mac & PC Tutorials. These are pretty good if you can put up with PDF, though the links for XP to OS X and OS X to XP are the wrong way round.

In other news I installed Winamp 2.91 which is reassuringly familiar and makes me feel all warm and tingly inside.

Logging in from windows

I expect that it's in "accounts" because it's something that can only be changed by an administrator on the machine, and an administrator can change it for any user.

Makes sense to me, but that's not necessarily a recommendation!
