I got an email today from a consultant who's working for a client of mine that outlines two issues they are having integrating their accounting system.
The product codes are up to 16 characters long and the maximum the can be is 15. They also can't support descriptions longer than 40 characters. What kind of arbitrary crap is this? Who sits down and thinks up such crazy field limits? I would have thought that somebody might notice that hard disks are cheap.
Talking about annoying limits, why is the maximum key size for MySQL 500 chars? This pisses me off when I want to have two VARCHAR(255)'s as an index. That seems like a bug to me.
