disk crash and change user

Last week both my desktop and notebook had a disk crash. Luckily I could save all the data from the notebook but the desktop seems to be gone. That was my "backup machine".

Anyway while reinstalling the notebook I put Ubuntu insteasd of the Fedora and it seems to be so much better. As simple as it should be it recognized the sound card so now finally I can listen to music.

The better thing I noticed is that when the screen is locked by the screensaver you can still login as another user and the system will keep the old login saved somewhere so the other user can come back to it later on. Nice.

How does Ubuntu handle power management?

I gave up with Fedora on my laptop because closing the screen would hang the machine, rather than halt/sleep.
I could really do with wiping WinXP and getting back to linux though.

power management?

I'll check that next year. Now I am happy with a living notebook.

Last time I tried (though it was plain Debian) I was in fear for my computer till I could turn it on.
