When you feel like wasting a lot of time, go
and visit the Computer History Museum.
Unfortunately most of its timelines stop at around 1990.
I'll second the recommendation. The Computer History museum has some way cool stuff, including Sage, which had an ashtray built in to the operator's console. Most of the docents have been around the block, too, and have some neat stories.
