Go, Uninterruptable Power Supply!
It's not too late to ask Santa for one (or two). One of mine is getting on in years, so I'll take advantage of post holidays sales to replace it with something beefier.
On rare occasion I've encountered a UPS with some other (electronic) failure, but their batteries definately have a finite lifespan. And leave the old worn out batteries at the battery store, so they get disposed of in a greenish manner.
But you already knew all that. 8^PRe:Energizer ( Bunny | UPS ) ?

Thanks for the nudge. I checked http://www.apc.com/ and found that they do indeed sell a replacement battery (with recycling!) for my oldest UPS.
