Out with the old box, in with the new

Just in time to replace a moldly old Celeron box from the end of the last century, Dell has some good deals going on low-end "servers". After rebate (bah), I picked up an adequately provisioned PowerEdge 400SC for $415 USD, which is less than it recently cost to build the equivalent from parts. DIY was fun, in an "everyone should build their own box once" kind of way, but this time around it's commodity computing.

Go, go, hyperthreading!

The box arrived. We slapped Fedora Core 2 onto it, and /proc/cpuinfo showed two processors. I thought I was only getting one. Woot!
