For the second time in as many weeks, I've wrestled with devices with embedded web servers that didn't play fair with Firefox. Tonight it was a Netgear wireless router. I was able to flash new firmware, but thereafter the web-based console refused to honor form posts (which are rather useful if you're trying to, say, change the device's bloody password). After tearing my hair out and coming close to flinging the damn thing out the window, it occurred to me to try IE. Then all was well.
I suspect there's a flakey web server component that sells into the embedded device market.
They could be using any of many free and/or decent webservers but if the pages are designed by clueless amateurs (like most websites, corporate, ODEON, or otherwise) then they will knock it off using word or frontpage or some godawful HTML editor shareware they found and liked and have turned back their system clock to keep on using rather than pay for.
