As I've said before, XML is great when you want a machine-readable, vendor-independent, text-based representation of hierarchical data with version-upgrade resilience.

However, nearly every application I've seen for XML strays from one or more of those points.

Sorta like Java. Sorta like TCL. Sorta like PHP (now that it has its own embedded WebServer!).

Actually, thankfully, sorta like Perl. {grin}
