I normally don't remember my dreams. At most a day or two before it starts to fade. However, about a week ago I had one that stood out in my mind.
I was sitting on the pavement after some sort of accident. I'm ok, so I get up and start walking nowhere in particular. Soon, I'm jogging along a paved street, then a gravel or dirt road as the trees get more and more dense.
Soon a man I don't recognize slowly but surely begins to jog past me. For whatever reason, I feel compelled to follow him. He eventually leads me into a dense forest and into some sort of underground maze. It's not long before I realize that I'm hopelessly lost. Feeling apprehensive, I decide that my best bet is to keep following him.
"Where do this path lead?", I ask.
The man slows, turns and says, "Mercy Street".
Now, what do you think *that* means?
If you are a Peter Gabriel fan...

"Mercy Street" - Peter Gabriel
for anne sexton
looking down on empty streets, all she can see
are the dreams all made solid
are the dreams all made real
all of the buildings, all of those cars
were once just a dream
in somebody's head
she pictures the broken glass, she pictures the steam
she pictures a soul
with no leak at the seam
lets take the boat out
wait until darkness
let's take the boat out
wait until darkness comes
nowhere in the corridors of pale green and grey
nowhere in the suburbs
in the cold light of day
there in the midst of it so alive and alone
words support like bone
dreaming of mercy st.
wear your inside out
dreaming of mercy
in your daddy's arms again
dreaming of mercy st.
'swear they moved that sign
dreaming of mercy
in your daddy's arms
pulling out the papers from the drawers that slide smooth
tugging at the darkness, word upon word
confessing all the secret things in the warm velvet box
to the priest-he's the doctor
he can handle the shocks
dreaming of the tenderness-the tremble in the hips
of kissing Mary's lips
dreaming of mercy st.
wear your insides out
dreaming of mercy
in your daddy's arms again
dreaming of mercy st.
'swear they moved that sign
looking for mercy
in your daddy's arms
mercy, mercy, looking for mercy
mercy, mercy, looking for mercy
Anne, with her father is out in the boat
riding the water
riding the waves on the sea

Hmmm... Interesting. I mentioned this song here in a journal comment recently. I thought maybe this might be where you got the reference, but actually, I got the name wrong in that reference, calling it just "Mercy", instead of the full correct title, "Mercy Street".

The thought crossed my mind that maybe I had heard the song on the radio recently but, to my knowledge, I haven't.
Maybe I should attend a London.pm meeting or something.
I think....
