Back before I knew Perl, when my very first programming tasks involved text processing with C, I bought this book called String Processing and Text Manipulation in C. However, it was above my head at the time and shortly thereafter I discovered Perl, so I didn't give it much thought after that. It sat for years, collecting dust while I attempted in vain to sell it on half.com.
Recent excursions into C and text parsing (the /proc filesystem on Linux, for example) have led me to dust off this long forgotten item. It's over 400 pages of densely written material and now that I'm older and (hopefully) smarter, I'll be able to get something out of it. :)
Sadly, I have been looking for a book on this subject. Thanks for the tip.

I'm not sure what to make of it so far. What I've read so far has been interesting and occasionally illuminating (though I haven't read much). It reads more like a PhD dissertation than an actual computer textbook (and I suspect that's what it is/was). That doesn't make it bad, but after years of O'Reilly & Addison Wesley, it's definitely different.Re:Wow

The question is, would ORA or AW publish a
version more suited to a modern, casualish,
audience? ORA don't seem that big on C books. AW
seem to do them though.
