I must say that I for one do think that REST could be a very interesting alternative. My main issue with it however is that its proponents do as much hand-waving and make use of just about as much big silly words as the SOAP people. Even after four years of experience sifting through XML techs to find the truly good stuff inside the hype, I seem unable to get the feeling that I'm properly sieving all the things I read about REST.

The problem is REST is almost too simple. Ultimately REST is just a web page, whereas SOAP "is so much more". Its just that people don't believe you can get quite the same functionality with "just a web page", they need an API.
