Can't get Ruby extensions to load in BeOS. Fixed one problem, only to hit another one.

In the process of debating the hyper anal system administrator, discovered that some fuckwits still put plaintext passwords on the command line, forcing us to add an encryption layer or use secure sockets for passing ps info back and forth.
Ruby 1.8 will be broken on Solaris thanks to some kind of configuration screw up that I don't know how to fix. Attempts to include procfs.h result in "cannot use procfs in large file compilation environment".
