Discovering Beth Orton

Not long ago I bought a compilation cd called Ultra Chilled which is just a collection of songs by various artists, all with a slow, jazzy kinda sound.

Most of the songs are ok, but every now and then one stands out that really catches my attention. The song in question on this album was Beth Orton's Daybreaker, which I really like. A quick search on Google reveals that I've either been living under a rock or watching too much MTV, because she's been around for a few years and has quite a fan following I guess.

So, this weekends task is to buy a Beth Orton album. :)

Chemical Brothers

Beth Orton was introduced to a mass audience (ahem) thanks to her contribution to the Chemical Brothers' first album, "Exit Planet Dust" ('95), where she sang the closing track: "Alive Alone".

Under a rock, definitely

But the same rock as most of the planet.
I'm no great fan of Orton's but I like a few
of her songs. In particular, the Four Tet
remix of "Carmella" and another Chemical Brothers
joint "Where do I begin?". And for the record,
she had a hit on MTV too (slthough it may have
actually been on 120 minutes).
