Whilst avoiding writing an article this afternoon I came across this old article from The Guardian. In it Jenny Colgan describes how authors get addicted to checking the Amazon sales rank of their book every few hours.
This particularly struck home with me as soon after Data Munging with Perl was published I wrote a program that would get the sales rank from Amazon and sent it in an SMS message to my mobile phone.
To my credit, I never actually ran the program, but it was touch and go for a while :)
Amarank back in 1998. Have you seen AmazonScan?

Shortly before Tom wrote that, I had a Perl books page complete with Amazon rankings, and # of camels Tom gave them in his book critiques.
