scottie doesn't have comments turned on for his blog entry about his initial impressions of YAPC. So I can't point out that he should really have seen brian's talk Conferences for Beginners. I think that would have helped a lot.

I wasn't able to make it to my own talk, but Randal and Jim Brandt set up some video conference thing so Jim could do it from Buffalo. Very spiffy.
I'm not sure what Scott's on about. All sorts of people just come up to me and talk. There's a pretty high density of Names here, too. The conference is what you make of it.

I would have loved to have gone. Any kind of conference is what you make of it. I personally leave it up to the other person to tell me they are busy. As a newbie, part of the conference is meeting the "bigwigs". No guts, no glory!
